Abstract

The fight against laser hooliganism in civil aviation is one of the urgent issues. The public abroad drew attention to laser attacks at airports in September 2004. Later, during landing in Salt Lake City, the co-pilot of a passenger plane received burns. By the end of the year, 10 reports of attempts to blind pilots with laser beams were received. Although unofficial, about 100 cases of laser
beams being directed into aircraft cabins were recorded during the last six months of 2004. In 2005, 220 such cases were recorded in the United States, and in 2010 - 2836. That is, over five years, the number of laser attacks at airports has increased more than 10 times. In the first six months of 2010, five attempts were recorded in Russia to blind pilots of passenger aircraft with a laser beam during landing. There is a tendency for the number of laser attacks to increase rapidly. This caused a wave of panic publications in the media. However, the wave of public indignation did not bring results. The danger of this phenomenon is growing every year, because the power of laser beams directed by hooligans is constantly increasing, while civilian laser devices remain publicly available and relatively inexpensive.
